Van Duijvenbode has been struggling with a shoulder injury for a while. "So I didn't expect to reach this level already," said the 31-year-old Dutchman to Viaplay post-match. "I surprised myself with this match."

Despite the narrow defeat, Van Duijvenbode therefore takes the positive with him into the remainder of this tournament. "That I can make it difficult for a top player like Gary is certainly positive, although he also missed some doubles and his victory was certainly deserved. Hopefully I can raise my level some more in the coming matches and then we'll see what's still possible."
