Fate of World Grand Prix still unclear after Tom Kirby Memorial Irish Matchplay cancellation

It was revealed earlier in the week that the Tom Kirby Memorial Irish Matchplay would be cancelled for 2020 with the final usually taking place on the same night as the World Grand Prix final.

It usually serves as a qualification event for the World Championship; but isn't going ahead which raises questions about the World Grand Prix itself.

"The annual Tom Kirby Memorial Irish Matchplay championship held in Ireland - which included the final on stage in Dublin during the World Grand Prix - has been cancelled in 2020," said the PDC.

"Details of qualifying for the World Darts Championship and World Cup of Darts from affected regions will be confirmed in due course."

The questions regarding the Citywest come from the hotel currently being used by the HSE "as a self-isolation facility"; with it's usual date of 4-10 October still yet to be confirmed.

The PDC have said they are hopeful it will go ahead; they will update fans at the end of the month as to whether it will take place at the Citywest or elsewhere.
