Daryl Gurney is through to the World Matchplay Quarter-Finals but only just came through in a hard-fought victory against Keegan Brown to open proceedings on Wednesday night in Blackpool.

Gurney won 11-9 and hit eight 180's with two ton-plus checkouts along the way to seeing off the Isle of Wight ace and he will be one of the favourites for the title after coming through.
Gurney started brilliantly pouncing on missed darts at doubles with a 109 checkout to go 4-1 up on Brown to ask the question of the Isle of Wight ace in the early going. Brown started to edge back at 4-2 down but Gurney moved 6-3 in front.
'The Needle' came back though to show he was very much still there with a ten darter which included a 180, 174 and then double sixteen. Brown went back to two behind at 7-5 but Superchin continued to hold and went 8-5 ahead.
Brown finally broke at 8-7 behind with both players averaging 94 and both with 26 percent on the doubles at this point. Gurney though had another surge at 10-7 in front and one away from the victory.
He didn't finish it off yet though with Brown breaking throw again to go 10-9 behind but Gurney just edged past him in a closely ran tie.
