On Friday evening an exhibition tournament took place in Neuwied which was organised by the Dart Sport Club Kastanie Neuwied e.V..
This darts club always organises exhibitions to promote the sport of darts in the region. In 2014 Roland Scholten was a guest there, in 2018 Neuwied was able to marvel at Justin Pipes' game and in January 2019 John Henderson competed there. In August of the same year, 25-time German Championship winner Andy Kröckel took part in an exhibition tournament there.
Last Friday, Florian Hempel was a guest there. Among the approximately 100 spectators, 20 lucky people were drawn by lot to play against the Cologne native. Originally it was planned to play one leg each against Hempel, but there was a change in the programme so that small matches in the format of best of 3 legs were played.
By the way, Hempel lost two of the 20 matches drawn. Here the spectators proved to be too strong, much to the delight of the spectators who celebrated their local heroes for this.
Among the spectators was 9-year-old Max, who to his great disappointment had not been drawn to play against Hempel. When, during a short break, the little boy asked the Cologne native that he would also like to play him, the Dessau native, who has a son of almost 4 years himself, did not hesitate for long and promised the little fan a leg against him: "I'll do it!"
In order to achieve an equal chance, Hempel played sitting on a chair. With this handicap, the little and overjoyed fan only had 3 points left when Hempel won the leg.
Finally, 10 entrance vouchers for the pinball museum in Neuwied, which the museum had provided, were raffled among all spectators.
According to the club management, the next exhibition tournament in Neuwied will probably take place in a year's time.
