The final day of the Czech Darts Open is set with Luke Humphries and Martin Schindler through with superb wins from both to end a superb Saturday night.
Both are into the final day as has been the case most of the European Tour season. Humphries lamented playing in the heat and needing to change aspects of his game next season. But it was still good against a formidable operator in Ritchie Edhouse as he averaged 100 in a 6-2 win.
Humphries missed chances to break after straying into single one on double 20. But Edhouse did exactly the same thing only to clean up double 16 himself for 1-0.
Edhouse had two darts in the treble 20 but they fell out the board as Humphries romped into the distance for 1-1. Edhouse missed three darts to hold and Humphries produced an exquisite clean kill of 96 for 2-1. He was throwing for 3-1.
Edhouse missed 127 on the bull to hit back but Humphries rued missed darts as Edhouse levelled up at 2-2. Humphries had six perfect darts but Edhouse was on 96 after nine only to not get a shot as Humphries broke again for 3-2 for a 10 darter.
Humphries hit double 12 for 4-2. Edhouse missed three darts to hold but Humphries swore at himself as he drifted into three on 108. But ‘Madhouse’ lamented his luck as he missed three more darts. Humphries pinned 70 to go 5-2 up and he sealed the win from there.
But perhaps the best was saved for last as Martin Schindler set up a tie with Mike de Decker after brutally thrashing Peter Wright. He hit a 103 average, three 180's and 6/7 on the doubles recording a 6-1 win.
A player really believing in himself after two European Tour titles and having the best year of his career, he has turned into a winner and it showed as he dismantled the defending champion.
It was a pretty slow start from both Schindler and Wright as neither were hitting top gear. Schindler missed 72 for a 2-1 lead and a break but Wright drifted into double 17 on 82 and just had to laugh as it went wrong and the German picked his pocket for 2-1.
He hit 67 for a 3-1 lead. He followed that up with an exquisite 144 checkout for 4-1. Wright hit a 180 to pressure but Schindler shut the door with a 68 checkout to go 5-1 up. An 88 checkout saw Schindler end a demolition job.
