Humphries on Clayton-Smith thriller after Dobey win: "I thought wow how could you ever top that"

Luke Humphries is through to the Quarter-Finals after an absolute thriller against Chris Dobey which went all the way at the 2021/22 PDC World Darts Championship.

"My emotions are quite high at the moment, I feel like what a game of darts to be involved in. I watched last night Jonny (Clayton) and Michael (Smith) and thought wow how could you ever top that but we got close. That was darting drama, I think the World Championships are starting to set alight a little bit now. People are starting to turn up and play well," said Humphries post match.

He had a bye after Dave Chisnall tested positive for COVID-19 and he discussed his mindset around it.

"It's an unfortunate circumstance. It was strange because when I went home after my game against Rowby-John, I spent Christmas and it felt like I was out of the tournament. It didn't feel like I was still in. It was strange."

"I prepared myself to play Chizzy, it was unfortunate. I love Chizzy to bits, I didn't want things to happen like it did but fair play to him for coming out and being honest about it."

He isn't dreaming yet though despite heading towards the latter stages of the tournament again.

"It sounds easy three games to win but you never dream until you're probably in the final to be honest because it's two tough games to get there. But we all dream even before you come here, how it would feel to pick that trophy up and see your family in the crowd."
