After becoming the last player to book his qualification at the
World Grand Prix,
Luke Woodhouse took full advantage to shock the in-form Dave Chisnall with a straight-sets victory.
"Chizzy has been a top player for years but I think over the last sort of two and a half months there's probably not a better player on the tour," says Woodhouse, full of praise for his downed opponent in a post-match interview with Online Darts. "But I've been playing alright myself so I wasn't quite super confident but I knew I had the game if I could get in first or second or every leg and really push him. I knew I had the game to beat him."
Heading into the most recent European Tour, Woodhouse was out of the qualification spots for this event but a run to the quarter-finals at the Hungarian Darts Trophy, which included wins over the likes of Rob Cross and Peter Wright saw him pip Gian Van Veen and Ricardo Pietreczko to make it to the World Grand Prix.
"I went to the euro tour and to be honest the Grand Prix didn't enter my mind," Woodhouse recalls. "I just thought that Ricardo would have the last spot, he was in pole position. As the games went on and I knew I was closer, yeah you start thinking about it a little bit but until someone comes up and goes; You are definitely in. It wasn't concrete."
"At the moment I'm playing some really really nice stuff and I feel probably as good as I've ever felt throwing a dart at the moment. I'm in a good space at the moment so yeah, who knows what can happen."
