Martin Schindler has comfortably qualified for the second round of the 2024 World Grand Prix. The German number one beat Brendan Dolan 2-0 in the opening round and he will now face Rob Cross in round two.
Schindler lost only two legs and was in control of the match the entire time. As a result, the 28-year-old German was beaming afterwards. "I'm feeling good! Obviously, I think I haven't played too bad. I mean, I was good and I was getting off from the first dart very well. But I still need to be honest about it that if Brendan had taken the second it would've been completely open," Schindler assesses in his post-match press conference.

"If you compare Brendan Dolan to Luke Humphries or Michael van Gerwen as a draw it's obviously easier, but Brendan is still tough to beat,'' the German continues. "But to be honest, I think I have the game to beat them and I have to do the same thing as I did today, with the first visit. I'm always talking about the big guns but probably I'm one of the big guns right now!"
Due to his solid form this year, Schindler has now moved up to 21st in the world rankings, which as mentioned, also makes him currently the first German, as compatriot Gabriel Clemens is ranked 26th in the Order of Merit. "But actually that doesn't matter who is the first German in the world rankings," Schindler insists. "I just want to be as high as possible. The top ten is my next goal."
Next up in the second round, Schindler will take on Rob Cross this coming Wednesday night. 'Voltage' defeated pre tournament favourite Luke Littler 2-1 in the first round on Monday night.
