Chris Dobey has been one of the fastest rising stars in darts and after coming onto the radar in 2016, he has gone from strength to strength.
Dobey now sits inside the top 20 having reached his first televised semi-final at last year's World Grand Prix as well as at the Players Championship Finals.
Many believe that a bright future beckons for the player known as 'Hollywood' and after his season was curtailed due to Coronavirus, he sat down with DartsNews.com to reflect on his season so far.
"I’ve had a bit of up and down start to the season my stage game seems to be there but need improvement on the floor," said Dobey to DartsNews.com.
Coronavirus
Dobey was due to play in the Premier League
this past Thursday in Newcastle but due to the aforementioned Coronavirus outbreak, he wasn't able to do. He gave his thoughts on that:
"Of course it effects us a lot but we have to keep the practice going whilst at home the main thing is we respect there decision and we all stay safe," said Dobey.
"I was gutted I had been putting a lot more time in on the board having more practice sessions trying to put things right and hopefully produce a good result in front of my home crowd but I’m sure once this is all done with I’ll get my chance."
UK Open tie against Ratajski
'Hollywood' produced one of the best displays of the year so far at the UK Open in facing Krzysztof Ratajski over on Stage Two where he got the better of him in a
brilliant deciding leg finish. He reflected on that tie.
"That was a great game to be involved in not only because I got the victory but that’s the way the game should be played a quality standard throughout the whole game."
Rivalry with Durrant
Dobey and Glen Durrant faced off at the recent PDC World Championship with the duo have the 'Smoggy-Geordie' rivalry due to being from Middlesbrough and Newcastle respectively and he admitted having this helps.
"We have good banter over that and to be honest I feel it brings us both on hopefully keep doing the same throughout the year and we both can get into the top 16 and be a good rivalry for years to come," continued the Bedlington ace.
Permanent Premier League place
Many fans said that the winner of their tie at the Alexandra Palace would gain a Premier League spot and Durrant went on to claim it and currently sits top of the standings but for the Bedlington ace, he didn't think this was really the case.
"To be honest we spoke to each other afterwards and we both said that the winner was gonna be chosen but I wasn’t 100% on that."
Ambitions
Despite Coronavirus keeping darts away from our screens for a while, Dobey has ambitions when he returns to the oche and in particular gaining a title.
"I would like to come back strong and get myself up and running and hopefully bag myself a title."
