Players can boost their bank accounts if they manage to throw a nine darter at the
World Darts Championship. Tournament sponsor Paddy Power will hand out 180,000 pounds for every perfect leg thrown at the Alexandra Palace.
For years, the PDC has not handed out bonuses for throwing a nine darter. Tournament sponsors do, however, offer such a reward. Last year Paddy Power made 100,000 pounds available for the player who would throw two nine-starters during the tournament. Unfortunately, no perfect leg was thrown during the entire World Darts Championship.
The task has become a little simpler this year. Only one nine-darter is enough to qualify for the bonus. However, the £180,000 will not go entirely to the player.
For every nine-darter, a player collects a sum of £60,000. In addition, £60,000 goes to a spectator in the room and £60,000 is transferred to Prostate Cancer UK.
Paddy Power has also agreed to transfer 1,000 pounds to this foundation for every 180 score thrown during the Darts World Cup. This action was also done last year and then one million pounds was raised for the charity. This year Paddy Power hopes to raise a lot more money to raise awareness of prostate cancer research.
