"It's up to the players to work harder to take the top four spots": Wright weighs in on controversy surrounding Premier League line-up

Peter Wright heads into the Premier League in good form after a superb start to the season as he looks to finally seal the weekly roadshow crown and he sees having the World Series and Masters before as a positive.

"We've had three tournaments in January as a nice warm-up. The standard of the players that have done the World Series are gonna be tough to beat," said Wright to DartsNow.

Reaching the semi-finals of the Masters, he admits he just ran out of steam against Rob Cross.

"I was a bit tired, it was a long day. All these other players can lay in bed, jump in the shower and go out the door. It's a little bit different for us. I was up extra early so I ran out of energy playing Rob Cross. There will be a next time."

A lot of controversy surrounded the picks for the Premier League and he gave an answer most gave in that, it's not up to him.

"It's not up to me who they pick. I was picked, I don't care. It's up to the players to work harder to take the top four spots, that's what I had to do. The PDC have picked their players in for their reasons."

He was also asked for his advice for his first opponent, Chris Dobey and it was more on the logistical side and treating it as what it is, an exhibition.

"Book flights at reasonable times. Not like 4am in the morning, just be sensible and enjoy it and don't take it too serious because at the end of it, it's the biggest exhibition you'll be in.

"When I first played Premier League, Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis were there. They classed it as a competition and I walked in and said it was an exhibition. At the end of it, you had Taylor and Lewis saying it was just an exhibition at the end of the season."
