Recently crowned US Darts Masters champion,
Rob Cross continued where he left off in New York by crashing in the highest average in
Nordic Darts Masters history on Friday night.
Cross ran out a 6-4 winner after an epic contest in which he averaged 108.19 and defied three 12-darters from Jeffrey de Graaf who himself has been in form as of late. Cross quickly took a break of throw by throwing an 11-darter in the second leg, before taking the lead to 3-0 with a 14-darter.
In the fourth leg, De Graaf got on the scoreboard via a 77 finish. Cross threw a 14-darter for 4-1, before using a 12-darter to narrow the scoreboard again. A 13-darter in the seventh leg ensured Cross needed just one more leg to win the match. With two 12-darters, De Graaf made it exciting by coming back to 5-4. Cross then decided the match with a 20-darter, after he needed six matchdarts in the tenth leg to secure victory.
“I was very focused tonight and I needed to be,” insisted Cross. "In my opinion Jeffrey was the toughest opponent I could have drawn. He’s been in very good form and credit to him, he caused me a lot of problems.
“I’m enjoying my darts and I’ve got a swagger about me right now. I just want to perform and I just want to win, so life is good at the moment.”
He has been in stunning form in recent weeks. In May, Cross won a Euro Tour tournament and in the last weeks of the Premier League Darts, the former world champion also performed very well. However, his biggest success came last week in New York, where Cross won the US Darts Masters.
