At the last World Cup of Darts, Belgium was too strong for the Netherlands in the second round, 8-2. But that game was preceded by an altercation between Kim Huybrechts and Michael van Gerwen.
Huybrechts told his story about the incident at the 'Double Top' podcast. "A week before the World Cup of Darts, Michael came up to me at a Players Championship. We had a little bit of words then. So he suddenly said, 'Hey Kim, who are you going to play with at the World Cup of Darts because I heard that doesn't want to throw with you.' Mike De Decker and Dimitri Van den Bergh were also there and given the strained relations, that was not a nice situation," Huybrechts said.
"But it didn't stop there. You have been beaten up by Moroccans, by children," he shouted at me. "Now I sometimes have a big mouth myself and I like some teasing, but this went a bit too far, I really did not like this. I even inquired with the PDC to file a complaint, but when they said I had to send an email for that I left it as it was, I didn't feel like it."
Huybrechts then took revenge at the World Cup of Darts. "When the draw was done he asked me if I was angry with him. I told him I was not angry, but that at the World Cup of Darts he would feel what he had done. And so it happened, we then demolished them."
"Danny Noppert then came to me during the break to ask if I was going to keep throwing out on the bull all the time. Everything just ran for us during that match, Dimitri was scoring really well and I threw everything out. We had won over everyone at that point I think, even England."
