Adrian Lewis saw off Steve Beaton in the first round of the World Matchplay denying 'The Bronzed Adonis' in a tie-break.
But speaking post-match, he admits his confidence wasn't sky high after the PDC Summer Series with Lewis losing lots of weight but not competing at his best.
“After the Summer Series, I thought this might be my last Matchplay. I put that much work into losing weight, and trying to do everything right, but I was thinking where do I go from here?," said Lewis to Online Darts post-match.
“I’ve been in this a long time, and I’m trying to do different things, but I’m not just playing enough to compete.”
