Luke Humphries proved too strong for Ryan Searle on the main stage. He is the latest into the Quarter-Finals of the
Players Championship Finals.
Thanks to an average of 103.70 and a finishing percentage of 41.7 percent, the victory went 10-7 to the brand-new Grand Slam champion.
He was commanding throughout going 4-1 up to start the tie, before Searle cut his gap with three legs on the spin hitting the bull for a 90 checkout. He missed an initial chance for the match at 9-7, but Searle could not mop up and Humphries returned to seal it in a top draw win.
While Jermaine Wattimena failed to join the last eight at the Players Championship Finals in Minehead. His tournament came to an end after a defeat against Ryan Joyce who reached his first major Quarter-Final in nearly five years.
A key moment in the match was the eighth leg, in which Wattimena missed one chance to post a break. Then Joyce hit the bullseye to make it 4-4 with an 84 finish and then 'Relentless' rushed on to a 6-4 lead. However, Wattimena managed to recover that deficit after the break. With a 13-darter and a 46 check-out, he came back to 6-6.
In the fifteenth leg, however, Wattimena was broken again after a 16-darter from Joyce. He then closed with a 19-darter and a 14-darter to put a 10-7 final score on the scoreboard.
