Luke Littler is into the semi-final of the
Premier League Darts in Manchester after a solid 6-3 victory against a disappointing
Michael van Gerwen.
At the beginning of the Premier League, Van Gerwen won three weekly titles in a row, but in the last six rounds of play, 'Mighty Mike' has lost five times in his first match.
Although Littler was far from his best himself, not throwing that great, either. 'The Nuke' even went seven visits twice to win a leg. Littler threw an average of 93, compared to 91 for Van Gerwen.
The first leg went to the Englishman with a 20-darter, then it was 2-0 with a 96 finish. Then "The Nuke" threw a 15-darter to make it 3-0. With two good legs, Van Gerwen returned to 3-2, before making it 3-3 with a 16-darter.
Van Gerwen was then able to take over the lead, but the Vlijmen native missed three chances to take the seventh leg. Littler then threw another 20-darter to pull the leg his way. Van Gerwen then missed one chance at 4-4, before Littler moved to 5-3 via double 8. With a 14-darter, the teenage sensation then managed to finish the job.
In the semifinals, Littler will take on his compatriot
Nathan Aspinall. The Stockport-based darter, who played a home game in nearby Manchester, won 6-3 over
Rob Cross.
