Mike de Decker has continued his ground-breaking run at the 2024 World Grand Prix and is into his maiden major semi-final after dumping out James Wade in a 3-0 win in Leicester.
All three sets though went to a deciding leg so could've gone either way despite the dominant scoreline for the Belgian. He will now play Rob Cross or Ryan Joyce after emerging from the quarter with Gerwyn Price, Michael Smith or Gary Anderson for a spot in the final. Superb from 'The Real Deal'.
The yellow touch paper was lit immediately as both were averaging over a ton and producing. But it was first blood to De Decker. He piled in a 66 checkout to close the opening set in a deciding leg. He was averaging 102 with 3/4 on the finishing doubles.
Wade usually dominates the fine margins. But this time it was De Decker who piled in a 122 checkout in the deciding leg of the second set to break throw and double his advantage.
Holding throw to go 2-1 up as he left 32 from 129, he pinned double four eventually as Wade couldn't take out 124 and he went one away from victory. He sealed it from there holding throw in the decider. Wade hit a 180 but so did De Decker in a sensational response. He left double eight from 116 after being unable to get a double.
Wade could only pressure from 181 and De Decker didn't leave it to chance sealing the win superbly and showing no nerves in falling over the line.
