For the 2023
World Cup of Darts, the PDC finally gave in to public pressure and made the event a tournament of exclusive pairs matches.
Wayne Mardle believes the new format was a complete success.
Speaking on Sky Sports after Wales had claimed the title with a comprehensive 10-2 win over Scotland in the final, "We've been pushing for it for a while," Mardle said in relation to the new format. "It was interesting to see
Peter Wright and
Gary Anderson say the format has been an absolute blast as well."
"If the players are enjoying it you're going to get quality darts thrown as well," he continues. "We can't forget some of the other nations that have given us so much entertainment over the past few days. Namely, Germany, the Belgians as well and Australia making a decent defense but coming up short."
"It's been one of those events that I've looked forward to. The format change for me has been a right success."
