Are Michael van Gerwen and Michael Smith the two best darts players on the planet at the moment? This stat revealed by Darts Orakel makes a good argument for that point.
In the final of the last 11 majors (defined as TV ranking events plus the Premier League) at least one of either Michael Smith or Michael van Gerwen has appeared. Most notably of course the pair faced each other in a PDC World Darts Championship final that featured the greatest leg of darts ever seen.
In fact, the last major TV final without either of those two featured, was the 2021 Players Championship Finals when Peter Wright beat Ryan Searle by 11-10.
