O'Connor sets up Schindler showdown as Joyce survives mid match surge to down Wattimena at European Darts Open

The European Darts Open is well underway in Leverkusen with Ryan Joyce and William O'Connor the first through to face the seeded names tomorrow.

Joyce in particular saw off Jermaine Wattimena in a 6-4 win with a 99 average and will now have Rob Cross in his sights tomorrow.

Initially going 3-0 up with a 12-dart 87 checkout on double 18, Joyce was half way to the finish. But after going 4-1 up, Wattimena came back with a 150 checkout to make it 4-2 and a 10-darter on double 16 for 4-3.

But after parity was sealed, Joyce surged away again towards the finish going 5-4 up and breaking throw on double 18 for a 6-4 win.

While O'Connor is set to face home hope Martin Schindler after seeing off Marko Kantele 6-3 in the opening game of the session.

Producing an 89 average, four 180's and a high checkout of 106, O'Connor from 3-2 surged to go one away with a 100 checkout to make it 5-2. Kantele came back with one final leg on the O'Connor throw but was broken back immediately for the win 6-3.
