In '
On This Day In..' DartsNews looks back on a tournament or performance from a specific player on a certain date. This time, it is a look back to May 3, 2015.
It was the day when
Keegan Brown won his first and currently his only ProTour title. This was during a time period where 'The Needle' showed some of his greatest promise.
At the time, he was the reigning World Youth Champion and reached the Quarter-Final at the Grand Slam of Darts.
With victories over Alan Norris, Jamie Lewis, Ricky Evans and Dirk van Duijvenbode, The Needle managed to reach the quarter finals of the eighth Players Championship tournament of the season in 2015.
In the last eight, Brown faced Peter Wright, who had taken the title the day before. Brown avoided a chance of back-to-back titles with a 6-5 win.
He faced John Henderson in the semi-final. Both players felt the pressure of a beckoning Pro Tour final, as the averages were in their low eighties, but it was Brown who managed to break Henderson with a 11-darter in the ninth leg and then with a 15-darter to reach the final.
In it he met Adrian Lewis, the 2011 and 2012 World Champion. But it was the best youth player of that moment who won the title. With an average of 111.72, four 180 scores and a whopping eleven 140 scores, Brown beat Lewis 6-3 to take his first senior title.
