On this day in ... 2017: Taylor wins last major PDC title at 'his' World Matchplay

In 'On this day in ...', Darts News looks back at an event or performance by a player on a particular date. This time a return to 30 July 2017.

This date went down in history as the day of darts legend Phil Taylor's last major title. The Power took the final victory at the World Matchplay in Blackpool. Taylor won this tournament 16 times (!) in 24 appearances.

He had a tough road to the final. With victories over Gerwyn Price (10-5) and Raymond van Barneveld (11-3) he reached the quarter-finals. In the last eight Michael van Gerwen was beaten 16-6 by his old rival.

In the semi-final Adrian Lewis could not keep up with his fellow Stoke on Trent ace and lost 17-9. Then it was Peter Wright who lost to Taylor in the final (18-8).
