McDonald admitted that at the time of the lockdown, he wanted a break; but it helped show the appreciation for what he does as a job.
"This sport has grown beyond anyone's expectations. There will be the few people who said I always knew it would be good; I never thought it would be this big," said McDonald to Weekly Dartscast.
"I said to my wife, since I've stopped working on the boxing and the snooker; it's meant I've had more time at home but still not enough time at home.
My wife retired from work 5 years ago on the pretence that we'd spend more time with each other and on the 9th of March; I said to myself it would be great to have some time at home. I never thought on the 14th March, I'd be spending four months at home."
"I've missed a lot of things. Having time at home taught me I'm not ready for retirement yet that's for sure and that's made me really appreciate what we do."
