The PDC have announced that the five Players Championship events which are due to take place at the start of July in the form of the PDC Summer Series will count towards the Order of Merit.
Confirmation that these will now be ranked gives players the chance for a late qualification push for the
World Matchplay (July 18-26); or to confirm their spot.
In addition in another incentive added by the PDC, a
Grand Slam of Darts spot will be confirmed at the end of the
Summer Series; with the winner of the Order of Merit over the five events claiming their place.
Prize money wise, the money which would have naturally lapsed from both the PDC and ProTour Order of Merit between March 16 and July 8; will be removed ahead of the five events.
The seedings for the PDC Summer Series (PC9) will be based on the ProTour Order of Merit at that time; with 52 weeks of prize money included.
The first day's Order of Merit will help to shape the rest of the seedings; with the previous days' prize money giving players the opportunity; to increase or decrease their seeding for the next event.
Like alluded to, the
World Matchplay line-up will be completed in the Summer Series; with the cut off date now being Sunday July 12; a lot to play for when darting action returns.
