Peter Wright and
Gerwyn Price have joined the last eight at the
Bahrain Darts Masters. However, both former world champions failed to convince in their first match of the new season.
Wright had to work hard against Haruki Muramatsu, who among other things managed to throw a 170 finish. But it was mainly due to the play of 'Snakebite' that the Japanese stayed in the match for a long time. Wright threw an average of only 91.
Muramatsu even led 3-2, but then missed four chances to make it 4-2. Wright subsequently took three legs in a row, only to see Muramatsu come back to 5-5. Wright then narrowly won the match with a 14-darter.
Price made a particularly uninspired impression against his opponent Reynaldo Rivera. With a 12-darter and a 14-darter Price did manage to grab a 4-2 lead and with a 14-darter it was 5-3. Rivera then showed himself with a fine 104 finish to reduce the deficit to 5-4. The Filipino even had another chance at 5-5, but missed tops. Price then finished the job with a 93 checkout for a 6-4 win.
