Dennis Priestley and Phil Taylor had a great rivalry during the 1990's contesting five out of the first seven PDC World Championship finals.

Priestley spoke recently and looked back on that period with fondness and that unlike some other rivalries, they faced off always in the latter end of the tournaments showing the prowess of the duo during that time.
"We were without doubt the two outstanding players during the 90's. Has there been a longer rivalry since what me and Phil had in the 90's. Banging heads together for 10 years consistently in finals not semi's," said Priestley to the Weekly Dartscast.
It was a great rivalry, I mean obviously I'm exactly ten years older than Phil and it started to take it's toll later on. I don't think I lost my ability really as much as I lost the mental side of it after the late 90's to be quite honest.
I wasn't concentrating as hard. Unfortunately my game was a little bit slower than the others and the concentration had to be at it's peak and when that started to wane, that's when I started to not be as successful."
