Deta Hedman will be the focal point of a documentary airing on Sky Sports Arena at 9pm on Wednesday, October 26 called Black Arrows: The Next Generation.
During that documentary, Hedman speaks about her own experiences with racism during her career.
"These days with racism you have to watch what you say and it would be construed as racism but back in the days, it really was. Some of it really is racism, it was there but in fairness no-one would come in my face and say it," said Hedman on Sky Sports.
"You could hear it behind you especially if you are beating their wives or girlfriends but I never really knew who said it. Quite often if I was there with friends, they would sort it out or shield me and I would say what did they just say and they'd say don't worry about it, we've sorted it."
As well as what it is like now and how in reality, it is still there but is more 'underground' than up close.
"Times have changed, if you had gone to whoever and said I didn't like this, they probably wouldn't know what to do as there was nothing at the time that was set in place to be done. As much as we will do what we like to do, racism will never be eradicated. It is still there now, it's just a little bit more underground and that's how I've seen it even now. You can pick it up, you can tell, they won't say anything but it's like a lot of stuff, it's not in your face anymore."
