Ross Smith has sealed one of the biggest wins of his career so far after moving into the Quarter-Finals of the 2022
European Championship in Dortmund.
Smith saw off Dimitri van den Bergh in a 10-8 win in a high quality battle between the pair that was edged by 'Smudger' with the aid of a 100.7 average and eight 1`80's. This alongside 50% on the doubles and a high checkout of 121.
Hitting 73, 109 and 56 in succession, Smith dealt a blow to Van den Bergh in the first session. He lost that break after the interval, but a 121 finish and an 11-darter gave 'Smudger' a 6-4 lead going into the next break.
After the second break, Van den Bergh still came back to 7-7. However, third time's the charm. Smith broke the Belgian in the fifteenth leg with an 11-darter and he did not give that break away. A 13-darter made it 9-7 before he eliminated Van den Bergh in the eighteenth leg with a 15-darter.
