The
Premier League Darts is back in the United Kingdom this week. After last week's trip to Rotterdam, this week the thirteenth round of play will be completed in the English city of Liverpool.
The battle for a spot at the playoffs is getting fiercer. After 12 of the 16 rounds of play, it looks like five more players will compete for the top four spots in the league.
Luke Humphries leads the league standings with 26 points, while Luke Littler has also accumulated 26 points. Behind that follows Nathan Aspinall with 23 points, while Michael van Gerwen holds the fourth spot with 22 points. Michael Smith follows in his wake with 20 points. For Gerwyn Price (12 points), Rob Cross (11 points) and Peter Wright (four points), it will be an almost impossible task to still make the playoffs.
In the first quarterfinal, Luke Littler and Gerwyn Price will face each other. For Price, it will be just about his last chance to still be in contention for the playoffs. 'The Iceman' will then need a weekly title in Liverpool. It will be the third meeting between these two players in this Premier League. Both won one of the previous two duels.
World champion Luke Humphries faces off with Nathan Aspinall. The latter managed to beat Humphries last week on his way to winning the weekly title in Rotterdam. That was also 'The Asp''s second win over 'Cool Hand Luke' in this Premier League. However, Humphries already won three times from Aspinall during the competition.
Michael van Gerwen draws straggler Peter Wright in Liverpool. Van Gerwen can put the points to good use, as number five Michael Smith has moved considerably closer. A loss for 'Mighty Mike' against Wright will ensure that the pressure for the coming weeks of play will only increase. Smith himself will take on Rob Cross in Liverpool, who has dropped considerably after a good start to this Premier League and is now seventh.
