Martin Schindler managed to reach the final of a PDC ranking tournament for the first time in his career last weekend in Niedernhausen.
However Schindler didn't manage to take the title, as Michael van Gerwen was too strong for The Wall in the final of Players Championship 8, 8-4. Schindler was a bit disappointed about that, he told PDC Europe afterwards. ''I couldn't show the level I had shown to reach the final unfortunately.''
However, the German did acknowledge that reaching the final is another step in his development. ''It is definitely an improvement that I am very happy and satisfied with. But I also know that I have to keep working. I have to keep giving everything so that one day I do win a tournament.''
World Cup of Darts
At the same time, Schindler's final place has put him in a good position to compete with Gabriel Clemens in the World Cup of Darts later this year. The 25-year-old German is optimistic about his chances of participating.
''I think I have a good chance to be able to play together with Gabriel in front of my own fans. It would mean a lot to me to return to the World Cup of Darts.
In addition to the World Cup of Darts, Schindler also hopes to participate in the World Matchplay and World Grand Prix. ''Those are tournaments that allow you to make steps up the world rankings.''
