Scholten reflects on 2004 UK Open triumph: "If you could take a trophy away from Phil Taylor at that time it gives you two weeks of floating instead of walking"

Roland Scholten in an illustrious career had his biggest triumph in 2004 when he claimed the UK Open title defeating John Part in the final at a time in 'The Tripod's career when he was at his best with two straight Premier League Semi-Finals following that and also in the World Matchplay.

Speaking recently, the Dutchman looked back at his win at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton at a time where by his own admission, it was even harder to win a title due to the dominance of Phil Taylor.

"It was a really nice win obviously. I enjoyed the longer games at that time, I liked the atmosphere in there. I was feeling well, all the people I normally practised with and normally played with throughout the year, everybody obviously was participating; Steve Beaton, Denis Ovens and Colin Lloyd, all my darts friends were there," said Scholten in an interview with the Weekly Dartscast.

"It was a good memory. It was nice, I played well and I was feeling confident and that gave me the opportunity to win it. If you could take a trophy away from Phil Taylor at that time it gives you two weeks of floating instead of walking!"
