Searle after comeback win over Smith at European Championship: "I hadn't travelled this far to give up"

Ryan Searle came from 3-0 down to surge past Michael Smith in a 6-5 win with a 101.9 average to begin his European Championship campaign brilliantly.
Searle, a Quarter-Finalist at last week's World Grand Prix has been producing brilliance for some time and admitted afterwards that he hadn't travelled as far as he has to give up easily.
"In that last leg I just wanted to hit the tops and not mess about, and luckily enough it went in," Searle admitted. "A couple of years ago I may have given up at 3-0, but I dug in.
"When I was 3-0 down I was thinking that if I could get it back to 3-2 at the break I had a chance. I hadn't travelled this far to give up, and I showed I'm here for the long haul."

- Many fans had a sour taste in their mouth by the end of this match. Mike was cruising to victory, playing beautiful darts, when the whistling started in earnest, particularly on his doubles. You could see in Mike's face that it was really affecting his concentration. The referee should have asked for order, just to show that the whistling is unacceptable, and Luke Littler could also have done his part to quieten down the crowd instead of "taking full advantage.:" I put that down to his age though. He needs some good advice on this from his management team and/or more seasoned players. It's got to be about who's best on the night, not who is being harassed by the crowd. Luke Littler played well to get back into the game and win, but it was a hollow victory. If he goes on to win the tournament, that triumph too will be tainted because of this match.
