Smith finally seals Premier League Darts weekly title with triumph on Tyneside over Clayton

Michael Smith has made sure that he doesn't leave this year's Premier League Darts with the unwanted stat of being the only player not to seal a weekly title by seeing off Jonny Clayton to win in Newcastle.

Smith saw off Clayton 6-3 in the final, with the latter ending the regular season top of the table and will face Joe Cullen in Berlin. For 'Bully Boy', it is a consolation as he ends the season outside of the play-off positions.

The St Helens ace was in dreamland to begin the final as he breezed into a 4-0 lead with a 103.6 average but this was nearly derailed as Clayton produced a 124 checkout to go 4-2 down.

It was three legs on the spin for Clayton as he made it 4-3 and sent panic to Smith but 'Bully Boy' coped with double 20 to go 5-3 up before going onto seal the deal as panic went to relief.
