William O'Connor is safely through to a second round tie at the 2020/21 PDC World Darts Championship with Daryl Gurney after seeing off Niels Zonneveld.
It was a straight sets win for O'Connor who only dropped three legs to begin his campaign against the Dutch debutant.
Despite a win with ease, O'Connor had trouble at the start finishing the first set with a chance at 9 (1, double four) proving elusive. Zonneveld kept himself in the tie with a 110 finish but O'Connor finally got himself through the opening set with double 10 last dart in hand.
He began to stamp his authority on the tie and breezed through the second set 3-1 with Zonneveld missing an opportunity to send it all the way.
He punished once more with Zonneveld missing three at double 10 and O'Connor coming back for an 80 checkout to go one away. This proved crucial as 'The Magpie' flew over the line from there.
