Spellman prevails at Gates' expense to take title on CDC Tour

The tenth tournament of the CDC Tour was won Friday night by Alex Spellman. The CDC Tour is open to darters from North America and through it, starting tickets for the World Darts Championship can also be earned.

Spellman made it to the final after wins over Chris Caldwell (5-1), Jason Brandon (6-3), Danny Lauby (6-3) and J.T. Davis (7-4). Spellman was then too strong for Leonard Gates in the final, 7-3.

With this title, Spellman can hardly escape placement for the World Darts Championship. That will be joined by another American and another Canadian darter. Stowe Buntz, Danny Lauby and Leonard Gates will decide later this weekend who gets to go to Alexander Palace with Spellman.

Among the Canadians, three players are still vying for a spot at the World Darts Championship. Jacob Taylor currently has the best credentials, but David Cameron and Jim Long also still have a good chance to be in action at the biggest tournament of the year.
