After an awkward, opening win that saw Dimitri Van den Bergh and Kim Huybrechts pay no attention to each other. The pair decided to put aside their differences and act like a proper team for the rest of the World Cup of Darts.
After romping to a comprehensive 4-0 win over Finland in their first group game, things were tougher for Belgium against China, squeaking the win, 4-3. "I have to say respect to China. They put up a fight and they played well," Huybrechts said to Online Darts in a post-match interview. "I have to say China played really well in that game."
After the aforementioned, awkward scenes during their opening, the Belgium team was more of a united front against China, something we can expect to continue going forward.
"It's not something for the public it's something for ourselves. He knows I've got his back, I know he's got mine," Huybrechts explains. "We know what we're capable of and I know what Dimitri can do. When he's on top form he can be one of the best players in the world."
"We want to apologise to our fans. It wasn't very professional. It's not like we're best mates and everything is sorted but we're Team Belgium. The World Cup is bigger than 2 egos and yesterday we were 2 egos."
