THROWBACK VIDEO: Cross defeats Gurney in greatest comeback in World Matchplay history

Rob Cross is the defending champion going into this years' World Matchplay which begins on Saturday evening but he was nearly dumped out at the semi-final stage last year to Daryl Gurney.
Cross fought back from the brink at the Winter Gardens producing the best comeback in World Matchplay history.
He reeled off eight legs from 15-9 down to stun Gurney; from there, he of course claimed victory in the final; so it will always be what could have been for 'Superchin' had he made that final with Daryl Gurney.

- Maybe the supposed top players are burnt out from the endless travelling and tournaments, I just don't think they have the dedication or outright desire to win. I think they are more interested in the money and being popular, just keeping their rankings steady. The only thing that mattered to Phil Taylor was winning, not winning a few games to top up the money pot and seeking the fans attention. Maybe there is too many tournaments now and the enthusiasm is gone. This year especially has seen so many different winners and unexpected draws and line ups.richieburnettrocks14-11-2024
