Due to Coronavirus, for the time being there is no darts currently on television. DartsNews as a result takes a look into history to look at some of the best moments from the past.
Today, we look back on
Phil Taylor making history back in 2002 by hitting the first nine-darter at the
World Matchplay. Chris Mason was the player on the end of the perfect leg by 'The Power' in the Quarter-Finals.
He was then defeated by Taylor (16-7) who had previously seen off Shayne Burgess (10-0) and Kevin Painter (13-6).
In the nine-darter, he went the traditional way of two 180's, followed by a 141 with treble 20, treble 19 and double 12.
It was a closer affair in the semi-finals as he edged past John Lowe 17-15 and in the final he defeated John Part 18-16.
