In 2016, the darts world was first introduced to
Rob Cross, who played against
Michael van Gerwen at the 2016
UK Open.
Back then, however, it was not the eventual World Champion who stole the show, but Van Gerwen. Indeed, the Dutchman managed to throw 18 perfect darts in a row in that match.
With the score 5-3 in Van Gerwen's favour, the Dutchman managed to take out 347 in six darts. He left the highest finish after scoring 177. Two arrows into the treble 20 followed, after which Mighty Mike hit the bullseye for a 170 finish.
In leg 10, the two-time world champion continued merrily. Van Gerwen threw two maximum scores in a row and then threw out 141 for a nine darter. A commercial break briefly interrupted the momentum, but after the break the world number one immediately started with a maximum score. Divided over three legs, Van Gerwen thus managed to throw 18 perfect darts in a row.
