It has been almost a year since Raymond van Barneveld announced his plan to retire after the 2020 PDC World Darts Championship.

In an interview with Josh's Dartistry, Van Barneveld once again explains his motives to quit with his professional career. The lack of success is the biggest cause of his decision.
''It's been in my head for the last two years. I won my last individual tournament five years ago. When you don't win tournaments for a year that's okay, but when you don't win tournaments for two years you start to worry.''
''The last two years you're thinking; 'Wow, what am I doing. Why is this going to happen'. Then I've got a lot of friends and fans who are saying 'it's coming, we believe in you' but after five years, it's not coming.''
''When that happens you've got to look yourself in the mirror and admit you're not good enough to lift trophies and win tournaments.''
''Going to tournaments and losing first and second round, I don't think I or my fans deserve that. They always believe in me. I thought it was a good moment to say goodbye for everyone. I'm just going to focus on the nice things in life, like exhibitions.''
Meanwhile Van Barneveld is only a little three months away from playing his last official tournament. In the run up to the World Championship 'Barney' will compete at the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam and the Players Championship Finals in Minehead.
