Van Barneveld thinks Noppert is an ideal teammate for Van Gerwen at World Cup of Darts

Danny Noppert will team up with Michael van Gerwen at the World Cup of Darts this weekend with the 29-year-old who has endured a brilliant rise up the rankings making his debut.

According to Raymond van Barneveld, who has played with Van Gerwen at the World Cup of Darts from 2013-2018, he is the ideal teammate for the World Number One.

"He's a quiet guy, but he doesn't care at all about your name, what you do or what you have achieved. He is not easily impressed by anyone and just plays his own game", says Van Barneveld in the RTL podcast Darts Bullseye. "He's just really calm and I think that can work well."

Darts analyst Co Stompé does not entirely agree. "You would not immediately expect a click in terms of personality, because Van Gerwen is very outgoing. Noppert is calm and timid. So it is still difficult to see how that will work out" says Stompé.

The former winner believes that players like Jeffrey de Zwaan or Vincent van der Voort fit better with Van Gerwen. "But they are all not inferior in terms of quality."
