Dimitri van den Bergh is not only playing for himself but also for his father, he admitted after seeing off Krzysztof Ratajski at the PDC
World Darts Championship.
Van den Bergh spoke about how his father Chris had his own darting dream but was denied by a violent drunk driver who damaged his throwing arm so he will aim to do it for him.
“My dad was a good player in his own right, but one night he was driving home late from the chippy and the car in front of him was swerving left and right all over the road because the driver was very drunk," said Van den Bergh as per
Daily Star.
“Fearing a risk to his life, my dad made the decision to pass (overtake) – and this driver followed him home and attacked him violently.
“Unfortunately, in self-defence, he damaged his right hand – his throwing hand – and that took a lot of his dreams away. Now, when I go on stage, I am fighting to make my dreams come true, but I am also trying to fulfil his dreams, too.
