Vincent van der Voort reached the quarter-finals of the Players Championship Finals in Minehead for the first time since 2014.
In the first match of the afternoon Fast Vinnie took care of Andy Boulton (6-5), after which Van der Voort only had to face Danny Noppert in the last match of the evening. His compatriot was defeated 10-7.
The Dutchman agreed the scheduling of the two matches was not ideal. ''It was difficult, definitely difficult. When you win, it's no problem. It was difficult because there was so much time in between and you have to prepare yourself again'', he told Online Darts.
Van der Voort took revenge for a recent defeat against Noppert with his victory over The Freeze on Saturday evening. ''Danny is a very good player. He beat me in the World Grand Prix, he beat me 3-0 so I knew I had to do something different and I did.''
With averages of 97.57 and 98.56, the former UK Open finalist made a much better impression than Friday, when he recorded a hard-fought victory over Jelle Klaasen.
''My head wasn't there on Friday and I could have lost, definitely. But the wife... She punished me'', he joked, without going in details. ''I sorted myself out and played a lot better and now I'm into the quarter-finals.''
Van der Voort faces Jonny Clayton in the last eight on Sunday afternoon, with the winner taking on Michael van Gerwen or Peter Wright in the semi-finals on Sunday evening. The final will be played later on the evening as well.
''To be honest I would take each game at a time. If you look at all three games, it's really a big mountain like the Mount Everest. But if you look at that at one game at a time, then I'm alright.''
