Van Duijvenbode after whitewashing compatriot Noppert: "Danny is worth so much more than this"

Dirk van Duijvenbode is through to the second round at the European Championship after handing his compatriot Danny Noppert a 6-0 whitewash.

Despite that though, he was disappointed for Noppert saying that he believes he is a better player and just didn't show it on the stage against him.

"I actually thought it was a shame that Danny didn't hit that 136-finish in the last leg, I really would have given him that. Of course I don't hesitate if I can win 6-0 but Danny is worth so much more than this. I think he is even a better player than myself, only he often does not reach his best level in the TV tournaments," said Van Duijvenbode to RTL 7.

A remarkable moment during the match occurred where Van Duijvenbode suddenly took his mobile phone from his pocket. "I had actually forgotten that it was in my pocket, but suddenly it started to vibrate. So I quickly put it on airplane mode," he said laughing.
