For many years,
Dirk van Duijvenbode has been known as 'The Titan' but during his World Grand Prix run, a new nickname was coined. The Aubergenius.
This nickname was coined by PDC commentator Dan Dawson with the Dutchman working as an administrative assistant at an aubergine farm and Van Duijvenbode has doubts as to changing his nickname.
"I don't know yet with Aubergenius , whether I really take that as an official nickname. It sounds nice, but I don't see myself wearing a purple shirt. I'm going to think about it in the near future," he said to the NOS.
Van Duijvenbode does not have to think about whether he will continue to work for his current employer. The current number 54 in the world will continue to work on the aubergine farm for the time being.
"I owe a lot to those guys there. I would never have been able to achieve this without them. Besides the sport, I never had to worry about a salary coming in. And I get the flexibility and the confidence."
