Van Gerwen beats Clayton; Wright finally has first win in Premier League after eight missed match-darts

Peter Wright and Michael van Gerwen are the first two players to secure a spot in the semi-finals on Thursday night at Premier League Darts in Liverpool.
Wright finally secured his first victory after five defeats. It took 'Snakebite' a huge amount of effort, though. The Scot led 5-2, but then missed a cartload of match-darts. Price came back to 5-5 and missed three match-darts himself in the last leg. Then Wright finally managed to hit the double with his ninth match-dart.
Van Gerwen dealt with Jonny Clayton in the second quarter-final. With finishes of 104 and 74, 'Mighty Mike' took a 2-1 lead before breaking Clayton with a 13-darter. The Dutchman stormed into a 6-2 win and will take on Wright later this evening for a place in the weekly final.

- Maybe the supposed top players are burnt out from the endless travelling and tournaments, I just don't think they have the dedication or outright desire to win. I think they are more interested in the money and being popular, just keeping their rankings steady. The only thing that mattered to Phil Taylor was winning, not winning a few games to top up the money pot and seeking the fans attention. Maybe there is too many tournaments now and the enthusiasm is gone. This year especially has seen so many different winners and unexpected draws and line ups.richieburnettrocks14-11-2024
