Van Gerwen eases past Wright in below-par display to continue Night Two of Premier League Darts

Michael van Gerwen has claimed his first win of this year's Premier League Darts in a highly touted tie against Peter Wright but one that didn't deliver quality wise.

Despite that, Van Gerwen coasted to a 7-2 victory with a 92 average as Wright hit 88 in going down to his rival with both players engaging in a war of words as of late but it is 'Mighty Mike' who wins this round on the oche.

Wright had a great start to the tie taking out 83 for an instant break of throw but was unable to consolidate that with Van Gerwen replying to make it 1-1.

Van Gerwen held from there to make it 2-1 despite only averaging 86 and a pivotal moment followed though as Wright missed two darts to break and go 3-2 up.

MVG held and broke himself in the requisite leg to make it 4-2 and Wright didn't claim another leg from there as despite not being at his clinical best, the Green Machine took his chances and punished Wright to romp to a 7-2 win.
