Van Gerwen regains 2nd spot with Van Duijvenbode into top 10 of provisional world rankings

The World Matchplay has only arrived at the quarter-finals, but what is certain is that the tournament is going to cause some shifts in the PDC world rankings.

Michael van Gerwen was eliminated in the first round, but 'Mighty Mike' did regain the second spot from Peter Wright. 'Snakebite' won the title in Blackpool two years ago and was eliminated in the last 16 at this edition, losing a hefty sum of prize money on the rankings.

Michael Smith retains his first spot, while Gerwyn Price is still fourth. However, Luke Humphries could overtake 'The Iceman' if Humphries manages to win the World Matchplay in his name. Jonny Clayton, currently number seven on the list, could in theory still become number five.

Nathan Aspinall could possibly jump to the fifth spot as well, while Dirk van Duijvenbode has a virtual top-10 listing up for grabs. However, Damon Heta and Joe Cullen can take over this spot if they reach the semi-finals in Blackpool. Ryan Searle can become the number 10 with a final place, while Chris Dobey and Daryl Gurney need to win the tournament to do so.

The biggest losers in the rankings are Krzysztof Ratajski (lost four places), Callan Rydz (lost three places), Vincent van der Voort (lost three places) Ian White (lost four places), Jermaine Wattimena (lost seven places) and Devon Petersen (lost six places).
