Van Gerwen takes on players and supporters of PSV: "He beat us with one dart too"

Michael van Gerwen was a guest of his favorite football club PSV on Wednesday afternoon. Together with some darts fans, the 33-year-old Dutchman took on players and supporters.

The PSV players eventually won the cup, as Marco van Ginkel predicted in advance. "Although against Michael it was pretty hopeless. He beat us with one dart too," the midfielder told AD.nl. Van Gerwen gave Van Ginkel a modest compliment: "I have seen worse darters. Do I have any tips? Well, I don't know if we have that much time?"

Van Ginkel and Van Gerwen know each other well. "He was loaned out a few times when he was at Chelsea, so the last time I saw him I said: 'Just come to PSV'. He has a great career and if he sticks to that for years to come, I want him to do it at PSV," said 'Mighty Mike'.

Van Gerwen has been a longtime PSV supporter. "You go along with your father as a little boy and then you automatically get the bug at a young age. When the Phoxy club (PSV's kids club) was introduced, I immediately became a member."

Alexandra Palace

Van Ginkel headed to Alexandra Palace in 2017 with fellow football player Davy Pröpper to watch Van Gerwen's match against Gerwyn Price. "That was top-notch. When I was smaller I watched Raymond van Barneveld and Phil Taylor and during the World Cup I do watch every Michael's match. It's not a daily thing, but a little aiming works. The question then is whether it will be the 5, 20 or 1. I'm not very stable. But then again, Michael just threw in here for an hour first too huh."
