Gian van Veen captured his PDC Tour Card for the first time earlier this year. The 21-year-old Dutchman has already reached the quarterfinals twice on the European Tour, in an impressive start to his career.
Van Veen therefore looks back on his first six months on the Pro Tour with satisfaction. "It's been going well, I've made a couple of deep runs in some tournaments, not as many as I would have hoped, but my game is there and I can't complain really," Van Veen told Tungsten Tales.
Until now, Van Veen was not a full-time professional. "Hopefully I'll be done (with school e.d) in three weeks. I've got my presentation in July," he explains. "The last couple of weeks, when the deadlines came up, after the Pro Tour everyone would ask if I was going out for dinner or anything and I'd have to say no because I need to be in my hotel room working on college work."
Goals
For the second half of the year, Van Veen still has some big goals. "Besides qualifying for the World Championship (which he can hardly fail to do so), I also want to qualify for the Players Championship Finals and if possible the European Championship."
Finally, Van Veen also gave his opinion on the performance of the Dutch duo Dirk van Duijvenbode and Danny Noppert at the past World Cup of Darts. "Dirk and Danny are two totally different characters, you saw that very well during the match against Belgium. At a 7-7 score Dirk expresses his feelings, which is okay, that's his thing and Danny was more timid. But that shouldn't be a problem either, I think they can look back on a good World Cup of Darts and be proud of their performance."
